How to set up two-factor authentication (2FA)

Account takeover attempts targeting business SaaS apps have risen, and we've put a dedicated security factor in place to stop this activity. Setting up 2FA only takes a few minutes and is a small step that makes a big difference in keeping your account secure.

Note: If you sign in using Single Sign On (SSO) with Google, Okta, or Azure, your connected account serves as sufficient identity verification and you will not be asked to verify using 2FA. However we strongly recommend setting up 2FA in case you ever want to sign on without SSO, as it will then be required.

What is 2FA?

Multi-factor authentication (MFA) is a security method in which users provide multiple ways to verify their identity when logging into an account. Many platforms offer this feature as an extra level of protection in addition to the account’s basic login information such as its username and password. While MFA can involve any number of verification factors, two-factor authentication (2FA) is most common.

One of the most popular factors to verify a user’s identity is SMS verification, in which the user provides a phone number through which to receive a verification code.

How to set up 2FA in TextUs

To set up 2FA in TextUs, complete the following steps:

  1. Go to the Settings page

  2. Click My profile on the sidebar

  3. Under My profile settings, select Security & sign-in

  4. Click Set Up 2FA.

  5. Enter your mobile phone number when prompted.

    1. This number should not be a TextUs phone number. You will need to access this number without being signed in to TextUs in order to verify your identity. Additionally, TextUs numbers should never be used for 2FA verification from us or any other organization. For more information on why, please refer here.

  6. Send your verification code.

  7. Using your mobile phone, retrieve your 6-digit verification code and enter it in the setup window.

  8. Click Verify Code. You’re now all set up!

Once set up, you will be prompted to use 2FA every time you sign in. You will be automatically signed out every 14 days for security reasons and must re-authenticate using 2FA to sign in again.

How to change your 2FA number

If you're currently logged in, you can change the phone number you use for 2FA by doing the following:

  1. Go to the Settings page

  2. Click My profile on the sidebar

  3. Under My profile settings, select Security & sign-in

  4. In the Two-factor authentication section, click on your current phone number

  5. Enter your account password.

  6. Enter your new mobile phone number.

  7. Click Send Code.

  8. Using your mobile phone, retrieve your 6-digit verification code.

  9. Click Verify Code. You’re now all set up!

Please note that if you lose your phone or change your number after enrolling, and are not logged in, you will need an admin to reach out to TextUs Support to get your enrollment reset.

Note: Because international customers may not be able to reliably receive 2FA messages, TextUs administrators can disable the requirement at either the account level or the individual user level. This is a safety valve, not a default. If you need help with 2FA due to this, please contact support.
