A keyword QR code provides a simple, scannable way to promote text-to-join campaigns. QR codes can be used across both digital and physical channels, eliminating the need to manually type in a phone number in order to engage with your business. When scanned, each QR code will automatically open the device’s default texting application and pre-fill the phone number and keyword.
Note: This feature is only available for messaging accounts with a Keywords license. To apply a license you've already purchased, see Assign premium feature licenses.
For more information on how to purchase a license, contact your TextUs Account Manager or Account Executive, or submit a form and let us know you're interested in Automation.
Ways to use your QR code
There are many ways you can use your keyword QR code to engage your audience and grow your subscriber list. The following are several examples of where to place QR codes across a variety of use cases and industries:
Place QR codes in-store, on flyers, or in online ads to encourage customers to subscribe to SMS alerts for exclusive promotions and new arrivals.
Add QR codes to event posters, social media ads, or digital screens to encourage fans to subscribe for game-day alerts, special promotions, and event updates.
Add QR codes to job fair booths, career websites, or business cards so candidates can easily opt in for job alerts and hiring events.
Use QR codes on employee bulletin boards or breakroom posters to allow workers to opt in for important HR updates, safety alerts, or training opportunities via SMS.
Regardless of where you place your QR codes, make sure they are clearly visible and close enough to be seen by a smartphone camera.
Generating a QR code
To generate a QR code for a keyword, go to the Automation > Keywords. Find the keyword you’d like to create a QR code for and click theQR code icon under Manage.
To save the QR code, you can drag and drop the image to your Desktop or click Download QR code to download it as a .png file.
Promoting your QR code
After downloading your QR code, you can include it on everything from flyers to social media ads. As you are promoting your QR code, consider the following best practices:
Place the QR code alongside a call-to-action (CTA) that describes what scanning it will do, such as “Scan to receive shift notifications” or “Sign up for exclusive offers!”
Make sure to be clear about what it is that subscribers will gain from signing up, and ensure that the 10DLC requirements for gathering opt-in consent are met.
For optimal scanability, make sure the image quality is high and the size of the code is large enough to be clearly visible to a camera. Test that the code is scannable yourself before distributing it.
Do not customize the colors of the QR code (such as inverting them) as this might make it difficult to scan.
Most smartphones have built-in QR code scanners as part of their default camera application. There are also many third-party QR code reader applications that can be downloaded on any device’s application store.
