Message quality indicator

Our new message quality indicator provides immediate feedback on the quality of your message as you are writing it. This tool helps users to prevent deliverability issues and maintain compliance with SMS regulations and best practices by detecting words, phrases, and other content that is at high risk of being flagged as spam. Previously only available with Campaigns and Sequences, this message quality indicator is now visible in the compose box across the entire application.

As you type your message, the shield icon on the right side of the text box will change color to indicate the quality of your message. Clicking on this shield will reveal further guidance for how to improve message quality, such as words or symbols that should be removed.

Some of the content that can lead to a message being labeled as lower quality includes:

  • Spammy content: words or phrases that are commonly used in spam messaging such as prize, claim, cheap, free gift, etc.

  • Content that is in all caps: for example, “WE’RE HIRING.”

  • Excessive punctuation: for example, “Get money now $$$$$$$”

  • Phone numbers within the message: Your contact should be able to use the number you are texting from to contact you. Including numbers in messages is often considered spam.

  • Excessive email addresses or URLs: Frequent use of email addresses or URLs within a conversation is considered redirecting, which is a form of spam.

For more information about what is considered as spam by carriers, please see Text messaging best practices.

Chrome Extension 4.0.4

This newest version of our Chrome extension brings increased reliability to all areas of the side panel experience. This includes improving Click to Text, Find Numbers, and conversation matching, as well as optimizing the functionality behind downloading and copying/pasting attachments within the extension.

The extension will automatically update to this new version (4.0.4) once the user accepts the Google Chrome permissions message. Google Chrome now requires us to explicitly display these permissions, even though the functionality has not been changed, only updated. These permissions are required in order to use this newest version of the extension, and the extension may be disabled until you accept them.

You will see an error button near your Chrome profile image. Clicking on the three dot menu next to Error will bring up this notice.

Click on TextUs Chrome Extension is disabled, and the permissions message will appear:

From this message, click Accept permissions in order to enable this update.

What permissions do we need and why:

  • Manage your downloads: This update includes an improved version of the ability to download attachments. In order to modify this feature, the extension needs permission to “Manage your downloads” so that it can properly add any downloaded attachments to your Downloads.

  • Read/Modify data you copy and paste: This version has also fixed several issues with users copying and pasting images into messages while using the extension. In order to update this feature, the extension needs permission to both “Read data you copy and paste” and “Modify data you copy and paste.”

Improved contact search

We’ve updated our contact search feature to make searches more flexible, accurate, and user-friendly. We’ve also redesigned the Contacts page and relocated the Groups feature to that same page for more efficient navigation. Take a look around, and see our Contacts & Groups documentation for help finding specific actions within the new layout.

Note: All Groups functionality has been moved to the Contacts page and no longer appears as an option on the top navigation menu. Rest assured, this feature has not been removed or changed in any way—it has only been relocated in the interface. To reach this page moving forward, click Groups on the sidebar menu of the Contacts page.
