Improved Opt-Out Rate Calculation
We’ve updated the way we calculate opt-out rates in order to align more closely with the calculations used by SMS providers.
Previously, we calculated opt-out rate as the total number of opt-outs divided by the total number of sent messages. Instead of sent messages, we will now be using the total number of delivered messages.
This small change will give you more accurate visibility into deliverability risk by ensuring that your opt-out rate is as close as possible to the number providers see when they determine whether account restrictions are needed.
Because of this update, you may notice that your opt-out rate is slightly higher than it was previously. On some accounts, this could even trigger opt-out threshold alerts that were not in effect before. Please note that these changes do not reflect a sudden spike in opt-outs — they reflect a more precise calculation. Your messaging quality has not changed.
To learn more about opt-out thresholds and how to decrease your opt-out rate, please see Managing opt-outs and Understanding opt-outs. For more information on how to view your opt-out rate over time, please see Organization health.
