Contacts in TextUs allow you to save user information so that you can easily compose and send targeted messages. You can add an individual contact by entering and saving their information, or your can import multiple contacts via a CSV file.
Add an individual contact
To add a contact to a messaging account, complete the following steps:
Click the Contacts tab, then click Add Contact on the left sidebar.
Enter the following contact information:
Name: The contact’s name.
Business: The contact’s business or company information.
Number: The contact’s phone number.
Type: The type of phone number for the contact (for example, mobile or landline).
Add or Create Tags: Enter a tag for the contact to group multiple contacts together under a specific label.
Note: If contacts are shared across your organization, adding a contact to your messaging account will make that contact available to other messaging accounts in your organization.
Import contacts via CSV file
You can import your contacts to TextUs in bulk by uploading a file that contains your contact’s information. Before uploading your account’s contacts, you will need to format your contacts in a CSV file to ensure a smooth import process into TextUs.
Step 1: Prepare your CSV file
The contacts CSV file must meet the requirements below. Note that this file may have been provided as an export from your previous system or texting provider.
The maximum file size is 2 MB.
The file must include at least a Name and a Phone Number column. Other columns are optional, as outlined below.
CSV columns and formatting

Name | The contact’s full name. You can also include separate columns for First Name and Last Name if the Name column is not provided. | Required |
Phone Number | The contact’s mobile phone number. Hyphens and parentheses are optional.
When adding multiple phone numbers to a single contact, enter all phone numbers in the same cell and separate each phone number with a comma (,). | Required |
Business | The contact’s business name. Only one business can be associated with a contact. | Optional |
Tags | A special identifier that groups contacts together by label. For example, ‘Denver’ or ‘leads’. | Optional |

Step 2: Upload your contact import file
To upload your contact import file, complete the following steps:
From the messaging account you want the conversation history to live on, go to the Contacts page.
Click the Import Contacts button on the sidebar menu.
Drag and drop the contact CSV file to the Upload Contacts section, or click Select File to add the CSV file you want to import.
Review the contact upload information that displays. Use the column dropdown menus to ensure that the column data is mapped to the correct fields.
When you’re done reviewing the upload information, click Import Contacts. Your contacts may take a few minutes to upload. You will receive a confirmation email when the process is complete.
