A Campaign is a customized text message sent to a set group of contacts at a specific time and date. Campaigns are a great way for businesses to target specific segments of their audience for event reminders, promotions, customer rewards, and more.

You can choose between two different types of campaigns: one-time and recurring. In this article, we’ll walk you through each type and how to create and send them.

Note: Campaigns Pro users can include rich media attachments to their campaign messages by clicking the attachments icon on the messaging options toolbar. This premium feature supports attachments in the following formats: JPG, PNG, GIF, RTF, PDF, ICS, and VCF. The maximum file size allowed is 525 KB.

Send a one time campaign

One-time campaigns are only sent to customers once and never repeat after they are sent. This type of campaign is ideal for communications you only want to send once, such as new product announcements, welcome messages to new customers, or one-time promotions.

To create and send a one time campaign to a group of contacts:

  1. Go to the Campaigns page and click New Campaign.

  2. Under Choose campaign type, select One time campaign, then click Next.

  3. On the Select Recipients page, add contacts to your campaign by uploading a spreadsheet, or selecting a group of contacts. After adding your contacts, click Next.

  4. Enter a title and write your message for the campaign. You can use the message options to add customizations such as your signature, emojis, or personalization. Once you're done creating your campaign message, click Next.

  5. On the Review and Send page, review the message preview for your campaign, then complete the following steps:

    • Use the Date and Time dropdowns to schedule when your campaign message will be sent. If you want your campaign to send immediately, leave the settings at the default date and time.

    • Use the Assign me to campaign conversations toggle to be automatically assigned to the campaign-related conversations. This setting allows you to be notified of any inbound campaign responses depending on your notification settings.

  6. Click Send Campaign.

Send a recurring campaign

Recurring campaigns are automatically sent on a recurring basis. They can be set up to repeat daily, weekly, biweekly, monthly, or yearly, making them great for routine employee communications, seasonal promotions, or monthly reminders.

Please note that the same exact message is sent every time the campaign is scheduled to repeat. If you’d like to create a sequence of different messages sent over a set period of time, please see our guide to sequences.

To send a campaign to a group of contacts on a recurring basis:

  1. Go to the Campaigns page and click New Campaign.

  2. Under Choose campaign type, select Recurring Campaign, then click Next.

  3. Click Select Group to add a group of contacts that will receive the campaign. After adding your contacts, click Next.

  4. Under Create Message, enter a title and write a message for the campaign. You can use the message options to add any customizations such as your signature, emojis, or personalizations.

  5. Under Schedule Message, use the date and time settings to schedule when your message will be delivered on a recurring basis.

  6. Under Campaign Ends, use the Date field to schedule when your campaign will end, or click Indefinite to schedule a campaign with no end date.

  7. Click Next.

  8. On the Review and Send page, review the message preview for your campaign.

  9. Click Send Campaign.

Note: You can send a campaign from various other pages across the TextUs web app by selecting one or more contacts and then clicking the Send Campaign icon from the batch actions toolbar. This can be done within Contacts, Groups, Keyword subscribers, and Campaign analytics. See each linked article for more information.
