How to release SMS on VoIP numbers
Updated over a week ago

If your phone number is SMS-enabled by your VoIP phone provider, we can assist you in releasing it for use in the TextUs platform. To get started, follow the steps below and contact our TextUs Support or your Sales Representative if you have any questions.

  1. Contact your direct Account Representative at your VoIP phone provider.

  2. Let them know that you are using TextUs and that the SMS portion of your number needs to be released so that TextUs can SMS enable the number on our end.

  3. Your Account Representative may ask you to confirm that you are not leaving for another phone provider. You can inform them that you would still like to use their service for voice, but you need to be able to text through TextUs.

  4. Your Account Representative will release the SMS portion of your VoIP phone number.

  5. After your provider has released the SMS portion of your phone number, contact TextUs to SMS enable the number so that you can use it with the TextUs platform.

Note: If your phone provider is Bandwidth, request to have SMS released and request to have your phone number be internally ported to another carrier, such as Level 3 or Inteliquent.
