Appended messages will be added at the end of outbound messages sent from a messaging account. Appended messages can be used to easily include information such as opt-out language on some or all outbound messages.
When setting up your appended message, you can choose whether you want it added to conversational messages or campaign messages, or both. You can use the default settings we’ve provided, or customize the appended message language and set the resend cycle to your company’s preferences, to ensure your text communications stay compliant with SMS regulations.
Tip: If you want to include your personal information at the end of a text message, such as your name and contact information, we recommend using the Signature feature instead.
Example Opt-out Language
Below are examples of opt-out language you can use within your appended message:
Reply STOP to opt out.
Reply STOP to unsubscribe. Msg & Data Rates May Apply.
Text STOP to no longer receive messages.
To stop receiving messages, reply STOP.
Reasons to add opt-out language to your SMS messages
Adding opt-out language to SMS messages is essential for several reasons:
SMS compliance: Including opt-out language in SMS is legally required in many jurisdictions. Failure to comply with these regulations can result in fines or legal action.
Avoid spam complaints: Providing clear opt-out instructions can reduce the likelihood that recipients will mark your messages as spam, helping you preserve your sender reputation.
Improve engagement metrics: By allowing recipients to opt out of messages they're not interested in, you can improve the overall engagement metrics of your conversations and campaigns by ensuring you’re only contacting interested recipients.
Set your default opt-out language for appended messages
Note: These settings are available to admins only. You can configure this setting for all accounts in your organization by logging in as an admin and configuring this setting on your organization or branch account, then locking this setting.
To make setting up your appended messages easier, you can set default settings for your opt-out language and resend cycles. This will make it easier when you configure appended messages for conversations or campaigns, as you can select to use the defaults you’ve set here.
Go to Settings > Message Settings > Intro & appended.
In the Defaults dropdown, enter in the Default opt-out language you’d like to use within your appended message. Tip: You can use the default opt-out language provided, or check out our examples of opt-out language above for ideas on what you can add here!
Under Resend cycle, enter in the default frequency you’d like the opt-out language to be resent when messaging contacts. For example, you can set if you’d like opt-out language to be sent every 30 days (default), or every 180 days.
Click Apply Changes to save your changes. Your defaults are saved, and you’re now ready to enable appended messages.
