Organization admins can set up and reorganize their TextUs organization on their own, without contacting TextUs Support. From the My organization tab you can create branches, move messaging accounts between branches, add team members, and request or discard phone numbers.
Only organization admins can see the My organization tab. Branch admins see the Team members tab and their own items on the Pending tab. For more information, see How user roles work.
How your organization is structured
Your organization is shown as a tree with three types of accounts:
Organization: The top of the tree. The account you are logged in to is marked Current.
Branch: A division inside your organization, such as a region or office. Branches hold messaging accounts, and can hold other branches.
Messaging account: Where conversations happen. Each messaging account has a phone number, shown under its name.
Select any account in the tree to open its details on the right. The Overview tab shows the account details (parent account, created by, created on, and account ID), plus its team members, branches, and messaging accounts. The Permissions tab shows the account's settings that control where it can be moved. The Activity tab lists changes made to the account, with who made them and when.
Tip: Use the Search accounts bar or the filter icon to find an account quickly. Use the collapse icon to close every branch at once.
Create a branch
Log in to TextUs as an organization admin on your organization account.
Go to the Settings tab, then under Organization settings select Team management and then My organization.
In the tree, select the account the new branch should sit under.
In the details panel, next to Branches, click Add Branch.
Enter a name for the branch, confirm the parent account, and add members. When you're finished, click Create.
The new branch appears in the tree right away.
Rename a branch
Select the branch in the tree.
Click on the three-dot menu to the right of the branch name.
Select Rename.
Enter the new name and click Rename.
The new name applies immediately.
Move a messaging account to another branch
Select the messaging account in the tree.
Click the pencil icon to open the edit panel.
Next to the account you want to move, select the arrow icon.
Select the account you'd like to move it under. All available destinations will be listed.
Click Review Changes. Ensure the changes are correct.
Click Submit.
The account moves immediately, along with its phone number, conversations, and team members.
When an account can't be moved
Some accounts can't be moved between branches whose settings don't match. A move is blocked when the two branches have different:
Messaging provider settings
Contact import settings
Opt-out settings
If a move is blocked, TextUs shows which setting conflicts. You can compare settings on each branch's Permissions tab. If you can't resolve the conflict, contact TextUs Support.
Note: Different integrations don't block a move. A messaging account can move between branches that use different integrations.
What happens right away, and what doesn't
Change | When it takes effect |
Create or rename a branch | Immediately |
Move a messaging account | Immediately |
Discard a messaging account | After 24 hours. You can cancel during that time from the Pending tab. |
Request a phone number | When TextUs finishes setting it up. Track it on the Pending tab. |
Track pending changes
The Pending tab shows everything still in progress: requested phone numbers, messaging accounts scheduled for discard, and team members who have been invited but haven't joined. Check here first when a number hasn't arrived or an account shows Discarding.
